Teachers’ Day
By Sihan, Chen (Aaron)
There is a famous saying from one of the extremely influential Chinese writers, “Since ancient times, learners would have their teachers. Teachers are those who teach truths, impart knowledge, and solve puzzles.
On the surface of this quote, it is expounding what would a teacher do; However, to look and analyze this quote at a deeper level, it does indirectly illustrated how important and precious a teacher is, emphasizing how crucial teachers' responsibilities are. Occasionally, people who had greater responsibilities usually deserve more respect from others, and these people include teachers.
September 10th is Chinese Teachers’ Day. This date was first set by the State Council on September 10th, 1985, in China. The purpose of celebrating this day is to affirm teachers' contributions to the cause of education and show high respect to them. The whole society would express their holiday blessings to the teachers. Most of the time, the students would send gifts, buy flowers, or make greeting cards for their teachers not only to show their respect but also to render the teachers a stronger and warmer sense of belonging, to their occupations and their lives.
When the word belonging, or the meaning of the sense of it is being mentioned, do you first come up with your family? Or the country you came from? Obviously, the family is the firm backup force of a person, indeed, but why? Why is it the backup? The answer is that people have family members at home who can give comfort when they feel depressed, offer support when they face pressure, and render accompaniment when they feel lonely. The school can also be a similar place for both teachers and students to have such a sense of belonging, especially in our St.Paul American School.
Last month, we had the Teachers' Day in SPAS. Our WeUs Magazine club had sent our Teachers' Day blessings to all the faculty of SPAS, while praising them for their diligent efforts as teachers, also to appreciate they are sticking to posts when the world is shadowed by the COVID pandemic. The sudden epidemic of COVID-1 9 and its global spread has forced many teachers to leave their former posts to start a new job or even a new life. For the new teachers in SPAS this year, we wish they can feel a sense of belonging here, not only to their profession of teachers but also regarding SPAS as a new huge family for them. Same with the purpose of WeUs magazine, we want everyone to feel like a part of “us.” This Teachers' Day would be their first Teachers' Day in SPAS. For those teachers who have been here for years, we do really hope they could find that former sense of belonging to SPAS before the pandemic from how we can easily celebrate this Teachers' Day this year.
In addition to our blessings, we had prepared a few gifts for the faculty on campus that day, including a rose and handwritten postcard with our sincere blessings on it. Other than that, we have decided for our art group to hand-draw the comic portrait on the postcard. We wish the best for all of our teachers and those who contribute a lot to our school. Thank you for your persistence and patience with all the students.
