Look at these energetic students who are coming to us! On September 30, 2021, the Second High School Attached to Beijing Normal University held the annual Sports Day. This festival includes all the departments of this school: the PGA (Project of Global Access) department, the SPAS (Saint Paul American School) department, the SACC department, the Canada department, and the Middle school. Due to COVID-19, SPAS hadn’t had a Sports Day since 2019, and the arrival of it in 2021 becomes especially precious to both students and teachers. A lot of students who experienced 2019’s Sports Day have left this lovely campus and went abroad to pursue their new life, which made the changes of the times seem more touchable. Nevertheless, those who stayed have prepared a lot for this hard-won event. Let’s take a look at their performance on Sports Day!

After the parade, now came the real competitions, which included high jummp, long jump, solid ball, and other individual events. Contestants prepared for their event for weeks, and they tried their best to get the best grade, overcame obstacles, and surpassed themselves. Although the audiences weren’t familiar with every student, in the section that SPAS students sat, everyone applauded with genuine enthusiasm for all SPAS members who appeared on the pitch. People hugged and gave high fives to the winners, even to those they didn’t know before. Consequently, we had a clearer view on carrying forward the spirit of solidarity and unity, building a better relationship with each other. This kind of phenomenon appeared most obvious when it came to relay race. Members encouraged each other before the race, believing that they will get the best score than others. “This is the result of our joint efforts!” said Angle Zhang, the member of four by one hundred women's relay race in Abby Wu’s class. For those who didn’t get a satisfying result, instead of blaming each other, they just hugged each other and went on to the next event, emphasizing the importance of mutual understanding and support.

Indeed, the central goal of Sports Day is to motivate students to win and exercise, but it is also an excellent chance for strangers to know each other and improve their relationships. We all fight for ourselves, for the team, and for honor, yet the significance of collaboration and mutual understanding is also undeniable. Let’s look forward to the next Sports Day!
